As a practicing Therapist, Eamonn Kirke is interested in aspects of masculinity and in particular the changing expectations on men in a changing society and the personal challenging some men experience when trying to understand themselves whilst not wishing to simply relive the lives of their fathers and grandfathers before them. Inevitably, these themes often echo and touch the writer's own journey from boyhood to manhood.
In some of his poetry, Eamonn Kirke explores life's 'big events'; death, grief, loss, identity, and love from a contemporary male perspective. This exploration also forms part of a wider spiritual journey, searching for real meaning in a life driven too much by purpose and a self of self, forced in a culture orientated towards productivity and achievement, rather than freedom and joy.
